More examples of china tv censorship (in china shenzhen)

At a friend’s house. Hong Kong news is intermittently cut out when images of Occupy are broadcasted. It looks to be done by a living person with his finger on a joy buzzer.

Dear viewers, as most supportive people to the movement head south into the battle lines i am heading north; into china. I will confirm if there IS a sheung shui occupy movement, and also to what extent i can access social media sites and information regarding the protests. Suffice to say facebook and instagram are off the air where i am heading. There are scattered reports that whatsapp does not function as well. Cheers.

update:in shenzhen now with wifi. There appears to be access to yahoo but no go with google. Instagram is inaccessible as reported but i can go on tumblr (yay). The very fact that i am forced to use yahoo (oh the horror) instead of google shows how repressive the internet laws are. Facebook is accessible if you bypass the firewall. The IT department marketing firm my friend worked at routinely bypassed the firewall to check trends in the industry. South china morning post has been blocked, RTHK (radio television hong kong similar to BBC) has been blocked, many HK local newspaper online sites have been blocked.

as a historical analyst, i really think there is a way to get out of the impasse, and most likely it will come out in the government’s favour. For example there were already grumblings from the general public along with the pro-gov supporters over the occupy movement. The public that has been anti-occupy has acted erratically by isolated incidences of violence. There was the crazy Mercedes driver that drove his sport coupe into the crowd of protestors and abandoned (ran away from) his car later. There were shouting matches in causeway bay from shop owners, and also shouting matches many times when i was on the public transport. It appears as if the movement has shown the deep division of society even down to the family level.

A way the government can get out of the impasse is to hijack the movement by hiring the triads or outsiders (troublemakers from dubious origins ie: china) to become trojan horses to the movement and become unbelievably violent to smear the campaign. This should mobilize the general public into becoming more sympathetic to the public/police order the govt is calling for.

further update: 10-2-2014, at least half of the pictures on tumblr are not loading properly. Additionally sole blogs are not accessible as well.
